8vo., green publisher’s boards, lettered in gilt to backstrip with the author's monogram in gilt to the centre of the upper board; together in the illustrative dustwrapper priced as called for 7/6 on the spine; pp. [X], 11-383, [i]; a near-fine copy, the odd faint mark to the edges of the text block; a couple of dinks to the lower board; Rippling to the cloth of the upper board otherwise a very clean and sturdy book; the near-fine jacket with just a hint of toning to the spine, and three small tears to the join ends; A better example that is usually found.

A later adventure / espionage novel from Buchan that has a lot of what he was renowned for. It follows the deeds of Andrew Melfort, who, after doing a stretch for a crime committed by his ex-wife, maurades behind enemy lines in the great war, goes on a hunt for a missing explorer and then post war, races to the rescue of the German public to try and foil a plot to overthrow the German Government. Melfort takes all in his stride and ends up in the Italian Alps for the final showdown. [Blanchard A99]
