The play premiered at the Royal National Theatre in October 1988 starring Michael Gambon and Miranda Richardson. It was a short one act play based in and outside of a prison following a group of prisoners as they come to terms with their native language being banned. There was a theme from Pinter throughout of the use of language and oppression, perhaps in reference to political events in the country at that time.
